A broker is a licensed company that acts as an intermediary between an investor and the exchange when buying and selling securities.
Key functions of a broker:
- registering clients;
- providing access to the stock market;
- processing trades;
- keeping records of assets and cash (if the broker holds a depository license);
- settling transactions.
A brokerage account lets you start investing. Account maintenance is usually charged, as a rule once a month.
